Skillet Kitchen employee preparing chicken and beef patties on a metal tray

In 2019, Kimble’s Food By Designed launched its newest division; Skillet Kitchen!  Skillet Kitchen provides correctional-detention food services and other food services a County may have.  Skillet Kitchen was created based upon requests from many of our commissary clients.  After sweeping mergers by the multinational companies, there was a void for smaller regional inmate food service providers.  Skillet Kitchen is proud to be able to fill that void.

Skillet Kitchen’s business model is based upon the Kimble’s four pillars of success; Quality, Service, Integrity, and Technology.  Skillet Kitchen provides menus that meets or exceeds local, state, and federal requirements.  We are committed to partnering with our suppliers to provide high quality standards and USDA requirements for freshness and quality.

Skillet Kitchen is offering a unique training program designed to prepare inmates for employment in the food industry upon their release. With instruction based on restaurant and hospitality standards, Skillet Skills is an innovative initiative providing education and experience in proper food handling, preparation, storage, and safety. After graduation, participants receive a certification, in addition to being qualified to take the Serve Safe Training Food Service Handler’s test. Thanks to Skillet Skills, former inmates are finding themselves back in the workforce, and not back in jail.

WITH SKILLET SKILLS, INMATES RECEIVE:

 • Instruction and experience in food handling, preparation, storage, and safety.

• Knowledge of restaurant and hospitality industry standards.

• Certification upon course completion.

• Preparation for the Serve Safe Training Service Handler’s test.

• Enhanced employment opportunities and support when released.

SKILLET DIRECT

HOT INMATE MEALS MADE TO ORDER

Skillet Kitchen is redefining meal preparation in the correctional food service industry. Innovative thinking and responsive service are always on our agenda, while quality food is always on our menu. With Skillet Direct, inmates can actually get hot meals made to order - everything from pizzas to cheeseburgers to buffalo chicken sandwiches.

On designated days, the inmate simply places the order from a specialty menu through a Kiosk or tablet. Then, it’s cooked to order in the kitchen on site. It’s just that easy.

WAIT.

WHY PROVIDE INMATES HOT MEALS MADE TO ORDER?

• A great way to control your inmate population.

• A morale booster.

• It’s a privilege that can be leveraged.

• Plus, Skillet Kitchen can work with any trust fund provider.

TESTIMONIALS

“I certainly want to thank Kimble's and Skillet Kitchen for the incredible work they do for our inmate population and for providing this worthwhile training to our inmates to give them job training skills that hopefully they can put to use when they are released."
